Sengkang clearly hasn't English as first language; for that there's way too many little irksome mistakes.
The story suffers from that, but also from the oddly constructed sentences, the switching of past to present tense and from a lack of technical skill.
While the effort to come up with a decent story is there, Sengkang uses too many clichés to keep the read interesting.
