I love horse stories! This poor woman, in spite of the initial pain, I believe came to love it too! Even though other authors have stressed whipping and paddling the person, I appreciated the mental anguish this time. Great Story! (10/10)

This is a marvelous story. In some of her other stories, such as "INR" and "The Whore-for-a-Day Game" Zacharias appears to be crossing the boundary from porn into serious literature; in this story she achieves the crossing, leaving the Marquis de Sade to stand alongside writers like Pauline Reage and Mary Gaitskill. This is not your average BDSM tale, where a woman discovers how terror mixed with sweetness is intoxicating, decides to become a fucktoy, and lives happily ever after. It is the account of one woman's obsession with pain -- her own pain. By changing the narrative subtly, the author creates a novel and unexpected landscape to set her story in. Two elements in this story help elevate it from wank fodder to serious literature. One is the episode describing the faculty costume party which Cindy attends dressed as a whore: this points to the fact that sex is power, a fact so uncomfortable that it needs to be controlled through decorum and social convention. And torture, back in the days illustrated in part by the museum of the opening scene, was used to enforce decorum and social convention. The second element is her boyfriend as a dissatisfying dom: his inadequacy at being one is essential for the story to work. For one thing, if he showed an ability at finding exquisite ways to inflict pain on her, his skill would distract the reader from the central theme of this story -- a woman confronting pain. His skill would lead the reader to wonder if they weren't, subconsciously, a BDSM couple. The story works because they aren't one, and have no interest in being one. And yet, her gift of the power to inflict pain upon her intoxicates him, tempts him to betray the woman he sincerely cares about and inflict further humiliation on her. And lastly, because this is literature and not pornography, there is more to this story than my review touches on. It rewards repeated re-readings. (10/10)

What i love best is that this feels completely possible to me and that's the sign of a really great writer. I'm also partial to stories that resolve themselves like this - they went into it as a partnership and came out of it as a partnership. And it's very hot. (10/10)

The careful attention to detail and writing mechanics are excellent, but it's the psychological realism, well-drawn protagonist and believable motivation that make Ashley's erotica white hot. (10/10)

As always, very clever dialogue uttered by witty folk, with just the right balance between tongue-in-cheekness and everyday realism. Top class entry! JJ (10/10)

I gave this story a "9" rating as it is indeed a very well written story with a theme of realism threaded throughout the story.I was particlarly pleased to see the imagination and creativity of the "Devil's Horse" being refined and adjusted by the boyfriend as the story unfolds, with the addition of the restraints and later the "saddle" being the two examples of this creativity. I would have given this story a "10" but like some of the other reviewers,I saw somewhat disappointed at the boyfriend being somewhat soft in making his demands during these sessions with Ashley upon the horse.More intense demands on the part of the boyfriend would have made this fine story even better.Imagine the boyfriend ramping up his demands for things like Ashley having to perform at an amateur night at a strip club,or posting her pics on an amateur site for comments or even a demand for her to recruit another female for a threesome. These sorts of demands would have given her some real dilemmas to deal with while on the horse. (9/10)

Barely misses the standard set by her earlier work (the Gammon stories, et al). I agree with Electric Badger that the boyfriend was just a little TOO reluctant, and although the story wrapped up neatly, it was just a touch disappointing — partly because I'd hoped for a continuation, and this doesn't seem to leave much room for one. Ashley is a great practitioner of the 'one part only' stories. This one is superb, but somehow just misses. (9/10)

An excellent story about a great device. The description of the devi's horse is intriguing. As a woman, I would like to ride it and see how long I could last. It would provide exquisite sensations. The contrast of the academic studies and the desire to be prunished is on the knofe edge. She truly enjoys the pain yet is able to focus it into academic sucess. the main character is a powerful resourceful woman reflecting the author's own mastery of the media. (10/10)

Very well done. The writing is engaging and pithy, and the content is sexy throughout, despite the subject (the horse), which seems, at first blush, to be limited. Ultimately, like most good erotic stories, there is a lot more than mere erotica here. (9/10)

One of the best I have read. It was an interestingly unique academic and psycho/sociological angle and at a very enjoyable subject. I eagerly look forward to your next writing. (10/10)

Amazing as always; I'm personally always a bit put off by a less-than-eager dom, but I think that's personal taste. A very sensual, sexy, romantic and very sweet tale. Thank you for writing it! (10/10)

It's exactly the type of story I've been looking for for a while. Also I agree with the previous reviewer and I think the story is great for the same reasons, it's even a little romantic I think. Of course this is my first review ever so what do I know.. Still, Kudos! (10/10)

A marvel! I was unsure anyone could write a story about consensual riding of a wooden horse.. but you did, and a great tale. Kudos! (9/10)
