Every time I read one of Cortez's stories, I think they can't get any better, but I'm always wrong. I find the stories of this author to be the best I've come across of short length. I am eager to read the published works of this author as I believe there is a work out. Excellent as usual. (9/10)

Nice scene! I could almost feel the poor girl's pain. (9/10)

I wasn't happy with this story in this form so that's why it reappears in a revised form in BDSM illustrated as 'Temple of Cruelty' and there are other episodes on the way.
In collaboration with my illustrator I have done a little gender reassignment to the new version to allow for other tales to emerge...

Every time I think I've read the best Cortez has to offer, I read another and discover I was wrong. What can I say but "Wow!" (10/10)

Aside from the pulp fiction/hackneyed style that too often detracts, the writer does select a somewhat unique setting with often vivid portrayals. Further installments should be worth reading in addition to this first one.
Well, you lose some (Boccacio2000g), and you gain some (kemosabe). the B-ster is a proven excellent writer, and though kemosabe has been very generous in writing Reviews in the past, I must confess to not having yet read any of his work. Most disconcerting, however, is that the primary writer (Cortez) has not responded to any of the reviews with at least a simple "Thank you". Such a reply is certainly not needed nor expected by most reviewers but does indicate a modicum of politeness. (5/10)

It's rare that I find myself in such disagreement - a four point swing - with my estimable friend,Faibhar. I thought that this story was very fine. Yes, the "plot" is a bit hackneyed, but there are few things new under the sun. As usual, Cortez' writing is wonderfully atmospheric -- from the first few words one can almost feel the humidity, and hear the nocturnal birds and insects in a distant jungle in a distant time. In a very real sense, that is the test of a good writer. Like Polybios, (another writer with a flair for evoking the faraway and long ago) I prefer the 'archaic' tortures of simpler times to the more modern scientific means of our own day. "Give me that old time religion," as it were. But even when I don't care for the methods used by Cortez (electric torture being chief among them) I always admire his style. Another winner. (9/10)

For me, this author's work reflects some of the best writing published at the library, almost free of any idiomatic mistakes and always elaborately construed. But while I'm not a fan of Cortez' 'electric', rather contemporary South American stories, the historical setting of "Sacrifice" and the featured 'archaic' tortures provide this story with the special flavour which makes reading a pleasure for me. Well written, colourfully described, nicely paced, and with a fine sense for the increase of both erotic tension and cruelty.
The reason for rewarding this story with 'only' 9 is due to the library's rating system itself, which is based on a story's literary quality, after all – 9 means "High Quality. Very enjoyable and well written". If I had to rate this story against the average quality of publications here, I would give it more than a 10 without hesitation.
(9/10)

While I tend to agree somewhat with Faibhar, I found the story to be quite entertaining. A plot that has been overworked at times was presented rather freshly, despite the overworked use of similes. (7/10)
