According to urban legend, if you place a frog in a pan of tepid water and turn the heat up slowly enough, you can boil the frog and it won't jump out. Can the same thing be done, metaphorically, to a woman? |

I love the psychological manipulation aspect of the story, how for Linda, the irrational becomes rational by following a twisted logic. However, I find it a pity the story takes a twist rather much too soon to my liking, veering off the constant degrading of Linda, pushing her boundaries further and further, to have her spending time in the basement awaiting her fate... I would have pushed the humiliation envelope further, instead of adding the basement chapter. On the other hand, re-reading the whole story, it makes sense that the story ends the way it does. It hangs together with the twisted mind of Richard and that of the writer. All in all, a stand-out tale, expertly handled, but sadly with two totally different tones. Which again falls nicely into place with the dual mindset of Richard/Mr. Hunter. JJ (9/10)

Horrifyingly wonderful and disturbingly absorbing, described in excructiating, vivid detail, and in the end, with a rather ugly twist on humor. It never lost my attention and I read it word for word. This got a 10 from me not because I enjoyed the story (and I'd be slightly concerned with anyone who did), but because the plot itself was rendered in such a powerful and painful way, right down to the chilling conclusion. In fact, I could go so far to say that I gave it a 10 for the exact opposite reason of enjoyment. This story stayed with me much longer than any BDSM story I've ever read. There's something about it that's too strong too just fade off within a day or so. I've read about worst things happening to tortured victims, but none of them were able to strike such a chord in me. I was able to guess the upcoming events miles before the rather clueless Linda could, and yet, I still found myself twitching uncomfortably in my chair when I read about them. Perhaps it was the characters. I could actually see someone in Linda or Penelope's position doing the things they did, blinded (no pun intended) by love. And even after they saw the truth, they still clung on to the desperate hope that Richard would forgive them for sins they never made. And Richard! A man with a snake's charm and poison. His duo-personality and insanity added to the haunting quality of the story. It's guys like these that make you jump from your seat in support of the good ol' death penalty with renewed vigor. A horror story more than anything else, 'Out of the Frying Pan' was a deeply compelling read, thanks to the writer's voice, the characters, and the plot itself. Henceforth, I will never think of pears the same way again. (10/10)

As a horror story, it's terrific. The images stayed with me long after the reading. The comments of the other reviewers like redEva and blushred were right on. SPOILER The dissapointment came in the tragic ending - which would have been okay - had I been warned. My pet peeve - I HATE snuff stories without a snuff warning. Just using the code would have helped. I kept waiting for a happy ending. Yes, the synopsys did help, but not enough. (8/10)

Although the story is quite skillfully written with nice composition, development and even the ending, wrapping it up; I personally read it to the end only due to the controversy about it. It was to slow to keep my attention and definitely not something that I would be interested in reading under any other circumstances. I understand that author did not have the option of posting this story anywhere else – but to all fairness to the readers (potential ones) there should be a warning that story has absolutely no erotic content. The rating therefore is not low due to the writing style – which I believe to be one of the better ones on the site, but due to the context of the story that made me nauseated. (4/10)

The only reason I didn't give it a '10' was lack of erotic content. I'm not sure this story belongs on a porn site, but it's great. LOVED the last chapter, which made reading through all three parts worth while. (9/10)

- I'm not entirely sure it belongs here myself, but didn't know where else to post this one. It was really intended as more of a horror story than an erotic story.

Although well written, the end spoiled what could have been a fantastic story. (4/10)

Ch. 2 dragged for me and ultimately this was a little downbeat for my taste, without a clever enough twist to justify it. ---------------------------------- (Ch.1)Very impressed with the writing. This is not one of those to be skimmed for the hot stuff, but can be enjoyed for its storytelling. As of this review date we have only the first chapter. I hope Harold won't keep us waiting too long for the conclusion. (7/10)

- Thanks for the comment. This story, in my opinion, is not my best (good, but not my best), but it's the one getting all the traffic and email. Is that because I posted it serially as opposed to my usual practice of posting complete stories, or did I finally manage to write an intriguing synopsis? I have no clue.

Intriguing storyline and quite sexy too. Builds slowly. Quite mysterious - looking forward to next chapter. (8/10)
